Well, not long to go until our first steam fix of 2017, Shanes Castle steam rally, next weekend.
Will probably go on the Monday, more happens on the Monday.
The next will be Ballymena steam rally in July.
Dorset, no go this year, maybe next year.
Any one on here coming over to Shanes or Ballymena this year?

Our first will be Strumpshaw, we have been going there for quite a few years now. Other than that, I think we only have Dorset and Bedford planned at the moment.

Strumpshaw, is that the rally that is held at a steam museum? Yes, it's only a small show, but nice and friendly. We go for the long weekend with the caravan. It can be easily done in a day, but we have been going for so many years we have got to know a lot of the people there, so by the time you have spent time catching up on what has happened over the last year, it takes a while to get from one stand to the next.

Had an excellent day at Shanes Castle on May Day.
The sun shone warm and bright all day.
There was an very good turn out of steam power, commercial vehicles, cars, military vehicles, fun fair.
For the first time at the rally, they had an all ladies threshing team, complete with a traction engine and lady driver.
It was great to meet up again with friends that we only usually see once a year.
I took my camera, but on arrival at Shanes Castle, the camera decided not to work, it worked fine at home.

My poor SLR camera hardly leaves the house now, as the phone actually has better resolution, only thing that lets it down is it doesn't have the lenses, but at most steam fairs you can get close enough no to need them anyway. The phone is a lot lighter and easier to carry round, especially with a ferret in each hand.
